This
week has been quite a whirlwind! We spent the week reading several short
stories from a variety of cultures. We’ve been reviewing plot, sequence,
characterization, and summary. All of those skills will play an integral part
in your district assessments from here on out. They will likely make an
appearance (or several appearances) on your STAAR exam in April, too.
Understanding
the plot of the story is essential to understanding the story as a whole.
Remember that an understanding of plot leads ultimately to an understanding of
theme, which basically is the purpose of any story. Remember also that theme is
not one word. It is a sentence that states what the author feels about the
subject of a story.
For
this week’s prompt, I want you to think about one of the stories we read in
class. If you’ve been absent, think about a familiar fairy tale, such as
Cinderella or Beauty and the Beast. The initial question: How does the story’s
plot help you understand the theme or point of the story? To answer this question,
consider the following sub-questions: 1) What happens in the story? 2) Who are
the protagonist and antagonist? 3) What lesson does the protagonist learn in
the story? 4) What is a one-word subject of the story? 5) What is the theme of
the story? Ask what the author feels about the subject of the story.
Because it gives you hints. Like the theme for Rumpelstilskin is being greedy will be bad and won't end well because the little man was greedy and thought that she wouldn't get the name right so he started getting real greedy and she guessed the name right. But what I'm trying to say is the hints the story gives you will help you find the theme.
ReplyDeleteOne of are stories was about ancient Griece the god Zeus has a son named Hurcules. The king is having a party and for that he sends Hurcules a dangerous mission to kill Medusa his enemy. After Medusa is dead her sisters are furious with him. And like almost every ending he lives in peace.

ReplyDeleteprotagonist is the main person & antagonist is the bad guy. The protagonist learns not to steal. thievery. to not steal and pay for your crimes
ReplyDeleteRumpelstiltskin helps the millers daughter spin staw into gold for a price. The protagonist is the miller's daughter who later becomes the queen and the antagonist is Rumpelstiltskin. The miller's daughter learned not to be greedy. One word to describe this story would be greed. The theme is don't be greedy and make promises you can't keep.

In the story, Rumpelstiltskin, a man lies to a king saying that his daughter can spin straw into gold. The king takes the daughter and locks her in three rooms filled with straw. In those rooms she had to spin the straw into gold or she would die. Then Rumpelstiltskin spins the gold for her for a neckless, ring, and her first born child. But when she guessed Rumpelstiltskins name she was able to keep her child. Rumpelstilstilstkin is the antagonist and the daughter is the protagonist. The protagonist learned never to lie. A one word subject for this story is greed. The theme is the same as the one word subject greed.
They help you find how the story went through the main ideas. Cinderella is the protagonist and the step mom and sister are the antagonist. You don't need to be ugly(dirty rags) to be a princess . It means to be nice and kind not to be mean.
ReplyDeleteThey help the reader kow to look for the protagonist and the agtagonist. The protagonist is the good guy and the agtagonistis the bag guy. The protagonist learned that work together you can do anything. The one word is that just work together and just not fight. The theme of the story is mostly inside and the'remostly the bad guy's who is talking not the good guy's.
