It’s
time to self-assess and set some goals. Some of you may be thinking that the
STAAR test is pretty far away. You’ve got time to work on those skills later.
You have a life, right? Here’s the reality . . . the STAAR test is actually
only 42 school days away! What seems like forever, always gets here quite a bit
faster than we sometimes want to admit.
We are in STAAR mode here at Mackenzie. 5th
6 weeks is essentially the time we spend revisiting skills that might appear on
your STAAR test. We work hard this six weeks because we need to maximize our
learning and preparation. Don’t be intimidated, though. We know how to make the
units for this six weeks fun, and Mrs. Jackson and I have been working hard to
do just that. Be prepared to work and prove to us and yourself that you will be
successful on that test!
Your initial question: How are you progressing this
year? To answer this question, consider the following sub-questions: 1) What
are your strengths? Weaknesses? 2) Are you reading regularly? It’s been proven
that people who consistently read outside of class make better grades when it
comes to the assessments, not to mention school in general. You have to read!
3) How can you work on your weaknesses so that they become your strengths? 4)
What goals do you have for the future? Set one goal for the immediate future
(within this year) and one for the distant future.
My progress has never been better in reading. I youst too fail all of my district assesments and know I pass almost all of them. some of my weaknesses are plot diagrams and Who Wanted But So chrts too. I read some picture books too my cousins. i can doo someore work in class just not test. On the starr test my goal is too make a 80 or above.

Yes I think I have progressed during the year. Some of my strengths I have are that I read a lot and I listen in class. Some of my weaknesses are that I struggle with spelling and sounding out words. I read regularly and sometimes more. I can work on my spelling and sounding out words to improve my weaknesses. A goal I set for this year is that I will spell better. A goal I set for next year is that I will read more than I did this year.
My strengths are explaning things and ven diagrams. My weaknesses are understanding the climax and falling action in my ELAR class. Sometimes I read on weekends or at school but not a lot. I can work on my weaknesses by reading more and going to tutoring. This year my goal is making straight good grades. For my long term goal I want to get my masters and bachelors and go to the Air Force.
ReplyDeletei am not good at revise and edit but i am good at spelling . yes i am currently reading the hobbit and just finished the hunger games series. practice. i hope to be able to speak another language and to become a astronomast.

ReplyDeleteMy personal favorites are Revise and edits, but when it comes to parts of speech, I'm clueless. I only read when it's necessary, I'd rather be doing something else rather than reading. I hope we can have a week lesson over parts of speech like where to insert symbols and how to make your sentences more clear. I want to make a 100% on my next district assessment and one of these days I might try publishing a book, remember I say MIGHT, not as in career but as in fundraiser.
Well for me I say that I am progressing really good from the beggining of the school year. I say my strengths is good in reading and like the comparison between two story's. But my weaknesses are like finding the summary, plot and theme. And I don't read a lot out of class so I think to get better grades and everything is to read more.
ReplyDeleteMy weakness is tests in stutter and I is hard for me to take it and my strength is not taking tests and working with a partner. I've been doing lots better on my reading and on my tests but the reading. The only way I can is if I keep doing teen biz 3000 so I can do better. The goal I want to set is to past all my tests and to do better on my work.
ReplyDeletemy strengths are writing stories. My weakness is reading long stories. Yes. Study your weaknesses and try until there your strengths. My goal is to read more chapter books.
ReplyDeleteI am much better in math than in reading. I read a lot on the internet but should read more books. I need to set time aside every day to read my book. One current goal is to read two books every 6 weeks. One of my future goals is to graduate and go to Tx. Tech.
ReplyDeleteIm very good overall at every thing we have been doing. Yes, i recently read a book titled "The Compound". I don't really struggle understanding things so I don't have to fix that. My goal is to start reading again.
ReplyDeleteMy strength is reading my weakness is to remember the story.I read regularly but sometimes I go to fast. I think that mabey I can read it twice and not go to fast to pasemy self. My goal is to make a hundred on my reading.
