Welcome back to our blog and another exciting week at Mackenzie Middle. Hopefully you all got a little break on Monday due to our GOALS day. Hopefully your advisors also got to meet with your parents and guardians, too. It seems there is always something happening these days!
Just to recap, we've been talking about reading and how we feel about it. Some of your responses have been nothing shy of insightful and meaningful. I can tell you are really reflecting on the topics mentioned. That's a good thing! As learners, it is important that we take time to reflect on how/why read at a certain level and work toward improving in that area. Last week, I asked you to talk about some strategies you use when you read. This week, I am going to follow a similar path and ask some more reflective questions.
The initial question: Why do you like or dislike reading in general? To answer this question, consider the following sub-questions: 1) What types of books, stories, or poems do you prefer to read and what types do you dislike reading? Why? 2) When you read, is it easy or hard for you? Why? Possible reasons might be vocabulary, comprehending what is going on in the story, or even not being able to relate personally to the events or characters. 3) When and how often do you read for pleasure? For school? And, how does your purpose for reading influence whether or not you like a story, book, or poem?
Answer the initial question and the sub-questions in four complete, insightful, reflective sentences. Remember, I am trying to get you to take charge of and evaluate your own learning. By doing this, you will be more likely to have a successful academic career. Own your answers. Be honest and reflect.
I love reading adeventure books and I don't like reading love books.Because I love people that adventure to other places.When I read it is easy for me.It is easy for me because I don't like to read fast and don't know what I i'am reading.I read when my mom gets me a book or I don't have anything else to do.
ReplyDeletewhat I like to read is action books like wrestling books and the ones I dislike are nonaction book like Swiss Family Robinson. When i read it is easy because when u make mistakes you can fix them and read them better the next time. I don't read often but i will try to to be smart and kind of work ahead and to get better at rading so i can go to college and pass it and get a good job so now i can start to read better.

ReplyDeleteI dont really like to read any type of book.I it is also hard for me to read because I dont like to read. I never read for pleasure and i only read for school if i haft to. I really dont have a purpose of reading.
ReplyDeleteI usually like to read when I am bored. The types of books I enjoy reading are fantasy and history, but not kiddie books. I especially like when I can relate to the characters that I read about. Sometimes reading can be easy and sometimes hard, when i have trouble understanding the story i just go back and reread it.

i read at school for 5 to 7 minites in reading. i like to read books that influence me by action, fairy tail like, and by mystory.
I like to read books that influence me. My favorite kind of books are horror books and books about animals. I dislike books that are in a story line of fairy tale stories. I find that books are not hard to read if they catch your attention from the beginning and keep you interested throughout the rest of the story. I like to read when I have free time will no interruptions.
ReplyDeleteCnickerson: My favorite book is nonfiction books because there is alot of books that discribe me. The books I hate or dont like to read is harry potter books because for me there just boredom for me like if I start reading it I can never finish it because it gets boring so thats the kindof books I like to read.

I like reading because its entersting for me and other people. I like reading the book twilight of how they meet and other stuff. Its kind of easy and hard its because of the vocabulary buts its kind of easy. and the books are cool to read. I often read for school or on freetime . i knid of like reading.
ReplyDeletei love reading my book series is the harry potter and world war z. reading is easy for me because i have a very high word per minute ratio and i have a very large vocabulary. i read for pleasure and for school, i also read about 3 to 4 books every 2 months. my purpose for reading is that reading is an essential need so i try to read as often as possible.
ReplyDeleteI read on a daily basis so reading chapter books has basically become a part of my life and it made it very easy to read. If you hand me a book and give me a time date i'll most likely have it done. I think reading rocks and should be encouraged a bit more than it already is and people should try to get into a book such as the hunger games, i'd say it gets more interesting near the middle of the book were she's trying to find an outfit.
ReplyDeleteCduran:I like to read drama novels and spooky stories. Because I like to know what is going on in my novels that I read (like twilight) they are very good books. When I read I sometimes have trouble but not all the time. I don't really read that often only when I need to or have to read for something.
ReplyDeleteFor the essential question I like reading in general because its easy to understand the book reading in general.I like reading stories that have a hook to them or are scary,mysterious,and interesting,I personally think that greek mythology,gods,and Harry potter books are NOT my type or any other book in that type.I think I like these kind and dislike because all the ones I like are what hook me on and my dislikes just dont interest me at all.To think about it I don't struggle much in reading although I do have sometimes where I will misspronunciate a word.I read alot mostly at school when told to but I sometimes read at home alot at home actaully.
ReplyDeleteI like to read Rick Riordan books about Percy Jackson because it has alot of action in it ( wich I love stuff with action)and alot of mythology.I love mythology becuase to me its really interesting and cool to learn about mythology and Percy Jackson books have alot of mythology and action and its just cool.

ReplyDeleteI like reading because it's a great way to be entertained and relax. I prefer to read books on the mystery side or funny side. I really dislike books that are fantasy, I do not know why. Reading is also very easy for me, I've always been able to read easily and without trouble. I used to read all the time, but now I don't at all. I really do not no why. I've made a few attempts at reading a couple books this week, but I really just do not like the genre.

ReplyDeleteI like reading mysterious books,ghost stories,and books with hooks to them,I like these because they are interesting and without a hook I personally think there is no point in reading the book.No I don't think it is hard for me to read, yes I have a few times where I misspronunciate a word but it's not hard, because I have always been able to read at a higher grade level.Well I usually read alot but lately I haven't been in a reading mood I also think that my purpose influences that I like reading books (sometimes). I dislike reading ingeneral ,because i get very imbarrassed reading in fronty of people.
ReplyDeleteMA: It's hard to say what value pictures book have for me because I'm required to read chapter books now. The last picture book I remember seeing was in kindergarten and the teacher used it to introduce counting by showing pictures of fireflies with lights on their tails. Middle School Get Me Out Of Here is a chapter book but it has a lot of pictures in it and it was the last book I read and enjoyed. Picture books are called "everybody books" because they are for everybody, not just little kids. I don;t know a specific picture book but one about snowboarding could help me and others learn or get better at snowbording.
