In my online classes at UNT, I was reading my textbook and started thinking about reading. When I was a student, I literally never left my house without a book. Books were my passion, and I read as many of them as I could. When it came to English class, though, I did not enjoy reading nearly as much. I always complained that the teachers dictated what we read, leaving me with little option to read the books I actually would have chosen on my own. My textbook states that there are 2 types of reading: engaged and not engaged. Engaged reading is what we do for pleasure. Engaged readers read because they want to, and they are so focused on what they read that they get to a point when they don't even really read words but are able to see the story in their minds instead. Readers who are not engaged are reading because they have to or were told to. They have more trouble picturing what's happening in their minds, and they tend not to enjoy the books as much. My personal philosophy is that everyone can enjoy reading if they are led to the right book. With that right book, magic can happen.
So here's my question. Would you consider yourself an engaged or not engaged reader? What do you think you can do to become a more engaged, better reader? Think about these two questions, and be honest. Write your response in a 4 sentence comment, or respond on notebook paper. Remember, be honest!
No I'm not a engaged reader.The way can be a engaged reader is read more every time I have free time.Another way i can be a engaged reader is get more books and read them.
ReplyDeleteMe personaly I am not an engaged reader.The way I really would become if I would be able to read on my own time.Also sometimes I know Ihave to read but I distract myself.But one more fact to help me become an engaged reader is mostly get more time to read and challenge myself to not distrac myself.

ReplyDeleteCduran: I'm An engaged reader. I like to read and when I find a good book I can't stop reading it. I can picture the book in my head while I am reading it. I like the more fake books than the real life books that talk about people.

ReplyDeleteDsegura:I personally think I am an engaged reader.Since I read alot in my old town I was rated at the rate of 7.6 in my reading.I am not sure if you are rated here but in my old town i was above 7th grade reading.I like scary books an get hooked on them once I start them. One last thing,when read interesting books I can picture the whole thing in my head as if it were a movie.

Deletei am i engaged reader . to make myself a better reader i will work on vocabulary and read alot of book . my favorite book is world wart z by max brooks . i also love to read comics withe lots of pictures. i learn better by reading and watching.

ReplyDeleteI think I am not an engaged reader. To become a good reader, I could push myself above my limits. I guess I just haven't found that "magic " book yet. I hope one day I could be like like Mrs. Kline and never leave the house without a book.
ReplyDeleteI can be an engaged reader. Over the summer though I really do think i have gotten worse about books. I used to love to read and would do so all the time. Right now I really just think I need to read one book and get interested again.

ReplyDeleteI consider myself an engaged reader. I like reading books about animals as well as nature. I feel that they teach us a lot of important information. I believe that I can become a more engaged reader by continuing on the path of reading books that teach as well as interest me.

ReplyDeleteNo I am not an engaged reader because I only read 1 book over the summer for 2 hours at night. I read Diary of a Wimpy Kid. If I read every night for 2 hours, then I would be able to read more books.
